NFL Football Rumors

Reports indicate that Jonnu Smith, formerly of the Atlanta Falcons, is visiting with Miami. Contract negotiations have already begun, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Theoretically, I would LOVE this move if it happens. Every Dolphins was able to point out how lost the offense was this season without a pass-catching tight end. Even just another pass catcher who is a threat aside from Waddle or Hill would be golden. But the tight end position in particular was rough. Yes, I know McDaniel’s Shannahan-style offense doesn’t accentuate the tight end position. But no touchdowns from them this season is inexcusable IMO. We love Smythe but his only benefits to this team can’t be just blocking and catching occasional dump passes as the top dawg on the depth chart.

Smith had a great year last year in regards to putting up receiving numbers. I have no idea about his blocking but I’ve always loved him as a pass catcher. He also had a strong despite 1. playing for a fairly putrid passing offense and 2. being #2 on the depth chart behind Kyle Pitts.

It feels like a done deal but remains to be seen. Until then, your boy here will be combing the rumor mill until it gets done!
